Are You Letting the Ego Take Over?

If one is not careful, they may find their lives being dictated by a force that feeds on illusion. Illusions of lack, of doubt, of inferiority, of fear. This force can survive only on form with identification. It must latch on to something, otherwise it is destroyed.

This is the force of the ego.

Humans often operate under a narrative. This narrative provides a sense of “self,” leading one to form identities based upon a story. For example, an accumulation of life experiences deemed undesirable may have one assuming the role of “victim.” By identifying with this role, they now call upon more life experiences that feed it. The ego has identified itself in “problems,” and is now in desperate search of more to keep itself alive.

The ego may also fuel itself in desire, in doing. It convinces one that if they continue to “do,” they will at some point reach a state of peace and contentment within. But the pleasure of the ego is short-lived. Because it can only survive and strengthen itself in the perpetual cycle of seeking more, of collecting more “doings,” which ultimately lead to a sense of lack, driven by fear; The fear of “I am not enough.”

The ego sustains itself in unconscious patterns of thought. It attaches to the identity the thoughts have created. Only when one can disassociate from the stream of thoughts that run through their mind by simply observing them, can they begin to extinguish the fire of the ego and allow the light of consciousness to break through.

When one recognizes the illusion of self as an isolated entity, separate from that which is their true essence, the ego dies. The illusion shatters in Awareness. Because Awareness is Presence. And Presence is simply, Being. The ego knows nothing of Being.

Only when one can be Present to the Infinite Now before them, will they unlock the formless dimension within, a dimension which thrives purely on the frequency of Love and Acceptance.
